Once the existential risk is removed, COVID-19 hysteria will subside. What do I mean by that? The moment President Trump is no longer in office, the swamp of relentless pessimism will be drained.
Progressives and liberal culture are in a moral panic about the country's future and how horrible things will be with a Trump re-election. Some of my friends have even stated black people will be back in chains if it happens. It appears we are trapped in a political nightmare, from which there is no escape, and the only way out is a Biden victory.
There is a direct connection between COVID craziness and the Trump presidency. Once there is a change of power in the Federal government's executive branch, there will be a change of heart and political messaging with COVID-19.
Will COVID-19 suddenly disappear? No.
What is likely to occur with a Biden victory? The first order of business will be a change in messaging from all big-city mayors, teachers’ unions, and their respective governors. They will begin with the suggestion of re-opening schools with all students returning. We are starting to see the seeds planted with pieces in the Atlantic Magazine and the New York Times. Schools aren’t superspreaders, so what are you worried about? The new messaging will be about how things really aren’t as bad as we thought after all.
Democratic governors will quietly rescind their draconian lockdown mandates over the first few months of 2021. As I wrote about a few days ago, the WHO recently declared lockdowns a terrible idea. Legislators will take this news as a pretext and suggest lockdowns are a thing of the past. They will tell us shutdowns are doing more harm than good.
With a possible majority of democrats in the new congress, these new legislators will finally realize the reality of vaccine creation. Their rush to push a progressive agenda will take precedent over everything else. Putting life on hold until there is a vaccine will be an afterthought. Knowing the dispensation of a vaccine is many months away, they will say, “We will learn to live with COVID-19.”
Democratic governors who have been waiting on superman to help their states fiscally will have a come-to-Jesus moment. Their sudden, intuitive perception of the reality of the need for society to fully function will mean their coming clean and admitting their failures. Realizing the true weight and impact of extensive lockdowns and the dismal state their cities are in will be an aha moment—a realization that revenue is essential. A stimulus package may be passed to help in the short term, but they will know the truth. They will insist on all businesses re-opening—like Florida.
If Joe Biden wins the presidency, the mood of liberals will lighten as soon as the inauguration ceremony is complete on January 20, 2021. Their four-year-long national nightmare will be over.
At this point, the new normal will be about managing the risk of COVID-19 since the federal government is in good hands. In the Russell Senate Office Building, they might start singing the tune, “Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead" Yes, a miracle occurred, and the election brought it into reality. Munchkins will come out of their offices and start to sing along. They’re safe in the understanding the house has fallen on Trump-the Wicked Witch of Mar-A-Lago.
Few on the left, if any, will continue to believe we have to stop the wheels of humanity from turning "until it's safe." No longer will we be waiting until no one dies from COVID. The majority of people will understand; at that point, life goes on. Zero cases and zero risks were political contrivances.
The election is the vaccine. It won't matter what people have said in the past and how we have to wait for this or that until we can continue with our lives. Democrats will forget what was said in 2020, similarly to how excuses were made for the large gatherings last summer during the Black Lives Matter protests. People create justifications for all kinds of behavior when it suits their needs and ideologies.
If permitted to be less COVID crazy, people will embrace it. We have already seen so many conflicting messages from public health officials. If for almost a year, the party of "follow the science" rapidly shifts gears after winning an election, cynicism will spread faster than this virus.
While my examples tend to prognosticate what life will be like in the first quarter of 2021, substantive truths remain. There are competing traumas. On the one hand, people are petrified of contracting COVID-19. On the other, many more still live with the trauma of not being free to partake in simple pleasures local government has forbidden over the past seven months.
There will be a small cadre of people who will continue to shelter in place and follow orders. They’ll be the ones you see wear masks while driving alone. These kinds of people are so vigilant, they wear five-layer face masks. You might even see them in bionic face shields while walking alone in the woods—even though the next human being is 500 miles away. Surely, those kinds of people will stick around for quite some time. Wearing a mask is one of the best ways to protect yourself from contracting a highly contagious disease. Masks use may become ubiquitous when someone is sick and doesn't want to spread their germs. We may take a cue from many Asian countries who wear them regularly when necessary.
What I’ve seen over the past few months are performative mask wearers. People say publicly they are social distancing, wearing a mask everywhere they go and follow every rule that progressives say they should. In private, they break all of those rules. I have seen it far too often.
The proof about how certain Democrats act is clear. It's all about the messenger, not the message. Vice Presidential nominee Kamal Harris said at the VP debate, "If Dr. Fauci, if the doctors tell us, we should take it, I'll be the first in line to take it. But if Donald Trump tells us that we should take it, I'm not taking it."
On the other hand, if Trump wins, media outlets like CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post may attempt to keep people in fear. They might try, but will they succeed? People are already exhausted, confused, and tired of mandates that have little merit.
With a Trump win, the left will have nothing left to fight over. Donald Trump will be in office until January of 2025. The political gamesmanship will cease depending on the size of the victory. Fights about Russia, porn stars, taxes, impeachment, tariffs, travel bans, the wall, and now, his response to COVID will be in the past. There will be nothing left to pin on the tail of The Donald. He might even be re-elected with the same Senate majority.
He will be the new Teflon Don.
I’m not so sure of a landslide from either party’s candidate. Did you watch the town hall sessions last night? Yikes. Why the American people chose these two elderly tongue-tied clowns is mystifying.
Watch Trump HERE and Biden HERE.
With either team's win on November 4th, the purveyors of permanent pessimism, despair, gloominess, and woefulness will magically find new subject matter to propagate. Relentless pessimism about COVID will dissolve like Alka-Seltzer in a cup of water.
