Standards are supposed to... standard. I think that's why we call them standards. Sure, some change. Marital infidelity is not treated as it once was, for example. But such changes are either evolutionary or the result of legislation. If punishment without investigation was wrong then, it's wrong now and vice versa. That is sometimes uncomfortable and leads us to have to prosecute our own, but so be it. Wrong is wrong.

Unfortunately, partisanship has become a dominant force in our nation and being partisan leads us to both ignore wrong on our side and not see right in our opponents. We are a poorer people for all this, losing understanding of what is truly right and wrong when it is usually in plain sight.
